Biotechnology engineering and bioinformatics

The Biotechnology engineering and bioinformatics department trains multidisciplinary engineers – project managers – prepared internationally, specialized in Healthcare, in Agro-food and in Environmental industries.

It offers two training fields or programs:

• Biochemistry and Biotechnologies which trains multidisciplinary engineers with a solid scientific and technical background in Life Sciences and Healthcare, in the Environmental and Agro-Food field, in management, in control, in quality and consulting to industries, but also in various fields of chemistry.
• Bio-Informatics and Modeling which is based on an INSA Lyon and the University Claude Bernard Lyon 1 partnership, designed to train engineers at the interface between biologists, mathematicians and computer scientists, who can analyse and process biological data, to extract relevant informations and to model biological systems in order to understand the processes of life.

Training consists of face-to-face instruction. The scientific courses are divided into 6 areas:

• Chemistry
• Biology
• Physiology and pharmacology
• Biochemistry
• Microbiology and molecular biology
• Engineering sciences
• Around half of the disciplinary courses take place in the form of practical work or tutored projects.
